8th grade is a split class of 9 week students and Yearlong students. 9 week students explore the elements of art as they are applied to personal themes that explore personal identity and the current social issues in today's society. Yearlong students will explore several of the same techniques and topics as 9 week students, however since this group has been in art since 7 grade as a yearlong student they will mainly explore personal themes along with a PBL pertaining to the importance of creativity in todays society and career field.

Color Mixing and Matchingstudents thoroughly explore color as it was discovered, how the color wheel work, how to match colors and how to create tones and tints of a color; color silhouettes, oceanic color matching.
3d ExplorationStudents will create 1 3d product each 9 weeks; Transformation Agamograph/ Kinetic art, childhood stars, Pandoras clay box, Journey boat sculpture.

Portraits and Selfiesstudents explore how the idea and definition of a self portrait has changed through the study of different portraiture artist, the creation of their own portrait and comparison of a selfie and identifying factors in a portrait; stencil portrait w/ social issues, memory portrait, portrait collage, spirit animal study w/ portrait.
Bell ringers and Do Nows/ due every 2 weeksstudents are given 2 weeks to finish mini projects during bell ringer/ do now time and any down time after finishing main units; Puzzle Piece w/ chosen theme, constellation silhouettes w/ legacy, draw me a song, ceiling tiles w/ given theme.

Research UnitEach 9 weeks students will conduct at least 1 research unit pertaining to topics relatable to other students and relevant to student's lives; immigration then and now with personal journey sculptures, capturing a moment in time w/ perspective study, social and global issues in collage and stencil making.
Yearlong Studiesstudents in the Yearlong course will also explore; tessellation's, altered books, constellation installations, stencil portraits w/ social issues, triptychs religion then and now, shadow box art, hero's journey agamograph, masks and hidden identity, creativity PBL.
