5th grade Visual Art is a time for exploration and fun! 5th grade students study multiple different artists, specific art techniques, themes and begin to understand how art incorporates all their other academic studies through introductory research involving social studies, science and language arts.

Color Wheel ProjectFor their first project students explore color in depth with an Isaac Newton study, light and prisms, color mixing guides and an art production.
Culture StudyStudents study a myriad of different cultures and time periods each quarter while producing different products: Cave art, Mexican Folk Art, Chinese Dragons, Aztec Suns, Mandalas

Perspective ExplorationStudents will explore perspective through a variety of techniques and products each quarter including; Dino Cities, Van Gogh Landscapes, Constellation Night 'Scapes, and Location Keyhole 'Scapes.
Exploring "Me" in Art and Sending a message through Art.Students end their Art explorations each quarter with a higher level theme explored further in grades 6,7,8; Exploring personal identity and sending specific messages through art (collage silhouettes, collage selfies, I Am Mandalas, Andreas Preis installation.

Research UnitStudents will conduct at least one research unit a quarter with the assistance of our Librarian including topics such as; community as a global study and different cultures and environments.
